Rio Grande do Sul is expected to experience significant rainfall over the next eight days. Forecasts prepared by the Secretariat of Agriculture (Seapi), Emater/RS and the Rio Grande do Sul Rice Institute (Irga) indicate that rainfall could exceed 100 mm in some regions, which raises a warning about the risk of flooding.
The State Civil Defense has already issued important alerts for the regions around the Rio dos Sinos, Jacuí and Uruguai rivers, with a high risk of rising water and possible flooding. The expected accumulations, according to the bulletin released today by Seapi, are associated with the action of systems that will affect the entire state of Rio Grande do Sul in the coming days.
In the northern, northeastern, central and parts of the southern regions, expected volumes may exceed 100 mm, with some isolated points reaching 200 mm accumulated. In the other regions, accumulated amounts should vary between 5 and 100 mm.
According to a bulletin released this Friday morning (20) by Seapi, 98 municipalities have already reported impacts caused by the rains in Rio Grande do Sul. So far, three deaths have been confirmed and one municipality has declared a state of public calamity.
The State Civil Defense also published a report detailing the main problems faced in the affected areas. Damages include closed roads and bridges, flooding of homes, landslides and damage to rural areas. Cities such as Bossoroca, Dezesseis de Novembro, General Câmara, Maquiné, Nova Palma, Osório, São Francisco de Assis and Campos Borges have already reported losses in crops and damage to infrastructure.
