So far, the rain at the beginning of this week, which occurred in Dourados and the region (MS), has not yet been enough to restore soil moisture and reach the ideal condition for the soybean crops that began to be planted from 15 of September.
The majority of cultivated crops are in the emergency phase, that is, the phase in which the plant will sprout. At this stage, the crop does not have high water requirements, as occurs in the reproductive stage of the crop, but humidity is necessary to promote a good establishment of the crop through the complete germination of the cultivated seeds, explains the researcher from Embrapa Agropecuária Oeste, Carlos Ricardo Fietz.
Yesterday, Monday, October 4th, it rained: 6 mm in Dourados, 3 mm in Rio Brilhante, 16 mm in Ponta Porã and 30 mm in Sete Quedas. In Campo Grande and Sidrolândia, no rain was recorded. This Tuesday, October 5th, so far, in Dourados the rain has reached 10mm. "Today's rain, at least so far, has already contributed a lot to the improvement in the condition of soybean crops in Dourados. However, there is still a need for approximately 35mm of rain in Dourados for soil moisture to reach ideal conditions" , said Ricardo.
He further explains that the month of September, which is traditionally a relatively rainy month, with a historical average of 102mm, was very dry, as this year, the rain in September was only 18mm. Although August was a rainy month, in September soil moisture declined significantly.
As for the rain forecast for October, data from the National Institute for Special Research (Inpe) reveals that the rain will end today in the region and should only return at the beginning of next week, during the long weekend.
