Rural young people aged 19 to 25 who participated in the Entrepreneurship and Development course for Rural Youth, held by Emater/RS in the regions of Caxias do Sul, Erechim, Ijuí, Lajeado, Passo Fundo, Pelotas and Porto Alegre, have until 23:45 pm on August 09th to register for the Young Farmers Project (pilot edition) of Exchange between Brazil and Canada.

The notice that determines the criteria for selection, as well as for registration, was published on the Emater/RS website and can be accessed at www.emater.tche.br/site/a-emater/portal-da-transparencia/publicacoes.php . Registration for participation in the selection process is free.

The exchange period will be eight and a half months, starting in November, in Brazil, online, with English classes, and ending in September 2025, in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, with classes at SELC College, and on-site period at properties in Vancouver and Kelowna.

“The properties are family farming and have many possibilities of serving as a model for young people to apply to their properties in Rio Grande do Sul”, assesses the president of Emater/RS, Mara Helena Saalfeld.

The selection of the 15 young rural producers will be in two stages, in which the initial level of English of those registered will be assessed and through an interview via Whatsapp video call. It is a requirement of SELC College, with the support of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB), of British Columbia, that young people who are on exchange in Canada have reached the pre-intermediate level in the English language. This is because those selected will go on an exchange with Canadian families, to exchange experiences and learn about innovative agricultural production practices adaptable to their reality.

The notice also publishes the programming of the Young Farmers Project (pilot edition). According to the president of Emater/RS, young rural people from Rio Grande do Sul will be involved in the international business communication curriculum, focusing on agribusiness techniques, sustainable practices and innovation in agriculture, with reduced environmental impact. “This includes using soil conservation techniques, water management, precision agriculture, and adopting organic and regenerative agriculture practices,” she notes.

The students will be linked to the Seymour Education Learning Center (SELC) school in Vancouver. The Canadian Consulate in RS, PH Advisory Group and Canada Intercâmbio are also involved in carrying out the Exchange, in addition to Emater/RS, whose municipal offices in the regions that hosted the entrepreneurship and rural youth development courses are receiving registrations.
