Inmet releases climate forecast for planting the main summer crops
Prognosis involves below-average rainfall throughout the Southern Region; and above in much of the North, Northeast, Central-West and Southeast regions
The following were published in the Official Gazette of the Union ordinances 314 to 329 that approve the Agricultural Climate Risk Zoning (Zarc), crop year 2022/2023, for the cultivation of second-crop beans. The Federation units with indication for planting are: DF, GO, MT, MS, BA, SE, AC, RO, TO, ES, MG, RJ, SP, PR, RS and SC.
The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) has great economic and social importance. Due to the characteristics of its cycle, it is an appropriate crop to form part of intensive, highly technified agricultural systems, to those with less technological use, mainly for subsistence.
Air temperature has a great influence on bean production and productivity. High or low temperatures, especially during the flowering and fruiting period, are harmful to the crop. Bean yield is also affected by the water condition of the soil, and water deficiency can reduce productivity in different proportions, according to the different phases of the crop cycle, mainly in the periods of flowering and the beginning of pod formation. Excessive rainfall during the harvest period is highly damaging to the crop.
Zoning aims to reduce risks related to climate problems and allows producers to identify the best time to plant, taking into account the region of the country, the culture and different types of soil.
The agrometeorological model considers elements that directly influence the development of agricultural production such as temperature, rainfall, relative air humidity, occurrence of frost, water available in the soil, water demand of crops and geographic elements (altitude, latitude and longitude).
Farmers who follow Zarc's recommendations are less subject to climate risks and can benefit from the Agricultural Activity Guarantee Program (Proagro) and the Rural Insurance Premium Subsidy Program (PSR). Many financial agents only release rural credit for crops in zoned areas.
Rural producers and other agribusiness agents can access official information from Zarc via tablets and smartphones, in a more practical way, facilitating guidance on the Federal Government's agricultural policy programs. The Zarc Plantio Certo mobile app, developed by Embrapa Agricultura Dígital (Campinas/SP), is available in app stores: iOS e Android.
The Zarc results can also be consulted and downloaded through the platform “Risk Indication Panel”.
