The public consultation regarding the concessions of the Jatuarana National Forest, the Pau Rosa National Forest and Gleba Castanho ends on July 29th. The consultation, coordinated by the Brazilian Forest Service (SFB), has been open since the beginning of June and aims to collect information, contributions and suggestions from the population regarding forestry concessions.

The forest concession allows the winning company to carry out sustainable management of public forests. Forest Management consists of reduced impact exploitation mechanisms and practices to capture natural resources without harming the forest. With forest management, only four to six trees are removed per hectare and the area can be recovered after 25 to 35 years, respecting the natural regeneration of the managed forest.

The sustainable use of forests contributes to the development of the country and especially to the municipalities and communities neighboring the managed areas, providing social, economic and environmental benefits. The SFB is responsible for monitoring so that the commitments made are fulfilled.

To compete for bids, interested parties can consult the documents and send contributions and questions to the emails indicated in each notice. Competitors will compete for each of the Forest Management Units (FMUs), presenting technical and price proposals.

Flona do Jatuarana, located in the municipality of Apuí, will offer 376,9 thousand hectares, consisting of 4 FMUs. Flona do Pau Rosa, in the municipality of Maués, has 3 FMUs totaling 249 thousand hectares and, finally, Gleba Castanho, in the municipalities of Careiro and Manaquiri, has 3 FMUs, equivalent to 151 thousand hectares. The sum of the three forests totals 885 thousand hectares for forestry concessions.

Currently, there are 21 forest concession contracts in progress, in seven national forests. Concession contracts respect the rights and needs of traditional peoples and communities. The contracts do not include the use of water resources, commercialization of carbon credits, genetic heritage, exploration of mineral resources, fishing or wildlife. The concessionaire only receives the right to carry out forest management. Ownership remains with the Federal Government.
