Strategic Territorial Intelligence System of Brazilian Agricultural Macrologistics will have a new stage of work. Project to be started this year foresees updating and deepening the information already available, as well as the inclusion of new data.

Analyst Gustavo Spadotti, from Embrapa Territorial, says that studies on storage will be in-depth. “We are going to 'go head in' with this topic to understand where there are difficulties and propose solutions”, he says. Currently, the system has an analysis on silo capacity, with data by state.

Another topic that the team will focus on is retrologistics, that is, the availability of cargo for trucks or trains to make their way back to farms and agro-industries after leaving agricultural products at their destination. The topic caught the attention of the Embrapa Territorial team, when they identified the large volume of grains from the Center-West that is exported through the Port of Paranaguá, PR. They then discovered that transport companies prefer to travel a slightly longer distance to this terminal because they have guaranteed freight on the way back, carrying fertilizers for rural properties and distributors. In the new project, researchers and analysts want to deepen knowledge about the demand for nutrients in Brazilian territory, in search of solutions for retrologistics in different regions. Therefore, the production chains and commercial routes for fertilizers, soil improvers and remineralizers will be objects of study.

Spadotti says that data from the agroenergy sector is also planned to be included on the platform – ethanol, biodiesel, charcoal, biogas, etc. The team will also work on outlining the logistical basins for the ten production chains already present in the system: cotton, poultry, cattle, coffee, sugar cane, oranges, wood for paper and cellulose, corn, soybeans and pigs. Until now, This work was done for the grains complex, grouping corn and soybeans.

Led by Embrapa Territorial, the work will involve seven other units of the Company: Agropecuária Oeste, Rice and Beans, Cerrados, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Soy, Soils and the Secretariat of Intelligence and Strategic Relations. It will also have a partnership with the International Plant Nutrition Institute – Brazil.
