Bill No. 25/06, authored by state deputy Gilberto Cattani, was approved this Wednesday (975/2025), in a second vote in the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso (ALMT), which revokes article 27 of Law No. 12.717/2024 and eliminates the tax on the use of irrigation systems in the state. The proposal now goes to the governor for sanction.

The Mato Grosso Agriculture and Livestock Federation (Famato) closely monitored the entire process, meeting the needs of rural producers and acting proactively with parliamentarians. The entity provided data, technical information and consistent arguments that demonstrated the need to revoke the charge, which is considered unfair and harmful to the production sector.

Article 27 of the law established an irrigation fee that, in some cases, exceeded R$60 per hectare. The measure caused great concern among producers, who already face high production costs and need to continually invest in technologies to increase the efficiency and sustainability of agricultural activity.

For Congressman Gilberto Cattani, the approved proposal corrects an error in the previous legislation. According to him, the charge established by Law No. 12.717/2024 proved to be inadequate and compromised the viability of many irrigation projects in the state. The repeal represents a relief for producers and reinforces the state legislature's commitment to the development of agribusiness.

Famato reinforces that it will continue to be vigilant and active in defending the interests of the rural sector, promoting dialogue between the countryside and public institutions and contributing to the construction of policies that guarantee legal security, competitiveness and sustainability for agriculture in Mato Grosso.
