Ministry of Agriculture publishes Action Plan for the Northeast
By improving the production system and facilitating access to credit, the plan aims to encourage agricultural development in the region
Fruit and vegetable prices are expected to fall in the coming days. The reason is that the products had a price drop in the month of July in the main Supply Centers (Ceasas) in the country, which could also be reflected in retail purchases, made by direct consumers. The highlight among the products surveyed was tomatoes, which fell by almost 40% in Recife and around 30% in Brasília, Goiânia and Vitória. The analysis is from the 8th Prohort Bulletin, released this Tuesday (20), by the National Supply Company (Conab), linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa).
Even with the drop in prices in most markets, potatoes, carrots and tomatoes are still more expensive than the values they presented in the same period in 2018. Onions, in fact, registered significant price increases, close to or above 30%, in all markets analyzed in this edition. Producers are favored with more attractive price levels that compensate for cultivation, since prices are above production costs.
Regarding carrots, the winter harvest should intensify supply to markets and reduce prices in August, thanks to the producing region of São Gotardo (MG), which sends large quantities of the vegetable to most of the country's consumer markets. In the Brasília hub, the price of carrots decreased by 17,45% and in São Paulo, by 14,38%.
On the other hand, potatoes have been suffering a reduction in supply annually, especially in this winter harvest, largely supplied by the states of Minas Gerais and Goiás. The biggest highlight in the drop in prices occurred in Curitiba, where the local Ceasa registered fewer 22,19. 0,41%. On the contrary, Rio de Janeiro had a small increase of XNUMX%.
Banana prices fell in most Ceasas, which occurred due to the increase in supply and the low quality of the product due to the cold. The exception was the dwarf banana, which ended the month with an upward trend in prices.
Orange also fell for the third consecutive month, but less intensely than in the previous month, in addition to the increase in volume sold in most Ceasas. The harvest of ruby, hamlin, westin and bay oranges has practically ended, and of pear oranges has been intensified, directed both to the juice producing industries and to retail.
Watermelon prices suffered again in the fields, which was also reflected in warehouses, due to the large production in Uruana (GO) and the intensification of the harvest in Tocantins, which increased supply in all wholesale centers.
The one that stood against the low prices was papaya, which registered a price increase in all Ceasas. This is because, in addition to reducing the supply of the product, the papaya species was overvalued and took longer to mature due to the cold.
