The Empty Pesticide Container Receipt Program, promoted by the Interstate Tobacco Industry Union (SindiTabaco) in partnership with the Brazilian Tobacco Growers Association (Afubra), continues to ensure reverse logistics in the sector. With itinerant routes, the initiative benefits 108 producers in 1.800 rural areas in 385 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, avoiding long trips and encouraging the proper return of containers.
Created in 2000, the program has already collected 21 million packages, all of which are sent to the National Institute for Processing Empty Packaging (InPEV) for sorting and disposal. Approximately 100% of rigid packaging is recycled and transformed into new plastic products, such as construction materials and new packaging, while non-recyclable packaging is incinerated in a controlled manner.
In addition to collection, the initiative maintains ongoing awareness-raising efforts. Producers are instructed to triple-wash, puncture, and store packaging until delivery, ensuring safety in the field and environmental protection.
The current route, which began on August 11, passes through nearly 200 points in 19 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul until September 23. Participants receive a receipt, a document required by environmental inspection agencies.
The program is part of the Campo Limpo System, which will be responsible for the proper disposal of 2024 tons of packaging in the country by 68,5, 90% of which will be recycled. August 18th, National Campo Limpo Day, reinforces the importance of reverse logistics and the adoption of sustainable practices in agribusiness.
