Moisture from flowers attracts bees
In addition to colors and aromas, flowers have several invisible factors to attract bees.
Agricultural technology company Biodel Ag today announced the launch of Sequester, a soil reclamation product used to restore soils' ability to capture CO2 from the atmosphere and help reverse climate change.
The product allows farmers to transition to regenerative agricultural practices and earn carbon credits.
“We believe agriculture is the best and most cost-effective option for sequestering large volumes of CO2 and other GHGs from our atmosphere,” said Ben Cloud, CEO of Biodel Ag.
"Agriculture is the best and most economical option for sequestering large volumes of CO2 and other GHGs from our atmosphere. Sequester is a potent product that is especially effective in restoring depleted soils."
When it comes to soil health and function, microbes are at the heart of sequestering CO2 from the atmosphere for farmland. The more active the microbial biomass of soils, the greater the CO2 cycling capacity of the atmosphere, which directly correlates with lower cultivation risks and production costs for farmers.
Sequestration is formulated with beings known to restore essential soil functions of cycling water, nutrients, salts and carbon: cyanobacteria.
During 2005 to 2012, Phyco BioSciences Inc. developed a proprietary blend of Cyanobacteria strains called Cyanoblend for use in soil remediation and as an ingredient in improved animal feed. Cyanoblend is licensed from Biodel AG Inc. and is the main ingredient in Sequester.
Cyanobacteria are nitrogen-fixing photosynthetic autotrophs that are extremely effective in soil recovery. These common microorganisms cycle carbon, fix nitrogen, solubilize phosphate and have a special impact on the recovery of soils affected by salt through biochemical reactions. For farmers, increasing the cyanobacteria population in Sequester's soil results in significant savings due to greater water use efficiency, increased nutrient availability and absorption, and improvement in salt-affected (sodic/alkaline/saline) soils.
As soil health is restored, so is the ability of AG lands to serve as a carbon sink and generate tradable carbon credits for additional income. Using Sequester on AG lands can provide the most economical and efficient means of rebalancing CO2 and greenhouse gases in our atmosphere and ultimately reversing the effects of climate change.
Planting crops in healthy, functional soils is the basis for highly nutritious food and for feeding the planet. As soil health is restored, the nutritional value of the crops produced is improved.
