ANDAV presents new Board of Directors
The representatives will lead the Association in the 2016/2017 biennium
“It is a concept that seeks to create ideal conditions for grain storage, seeking to avoid the losses that often occur in both the quality and quantity of what is stored inside silos and warehouses. To this end, the people in charge of this sector must receive training and improvement in the appropriate management of each type of grain, respecting their temperature and humidity tolerances”. With this definition, Qualygran's executive director, Julio Espel, explains what Precision Storage is and its importance.
Julio states that before being sold, the grains go through a classification process and it is at this point that the producer suffers from the consequences of inadequate storage, often caused by poorly sized equipment, different climatic conditions and a lack of information and training. “The silos and warehouses where the grains are deposited are hostile environments for the grains, as they contain a high incidence of dust, heat, cold, humidity, insects, rodents, birds and extreme climate variations”, he points out. The consequence of this affects the producer's pocket, who often does not calculate how much this represents in their profitability.
Precision Storage consists of obtaining better results by reducing operational costs and eliminating losses arising from the storage unit. With small investments in technology and guided management, the producer can easily achieve a financial return of 4 to 7%, which on 100 thousand bags of soybeans would be R$ 300 thousand to R$ 500 thousand, just to give an example. The preservation of grains in storage is historically based on thermometry and aeration. To obtain an excellent result with this management technology, it is important to use the Cycloar Exhaust System, which are natural aerators installed on the roof of silos and warehouses and work, driven only by the wind, 24 hours a day, removing heat and humidity from inside the themselves, eliminating 100% of the heat pocket and avoiding the unnecessary activation of electrical aeration (large fans), thus bringing savings of 50 to 70% of electrical energy.
Loss – One of the items that Precision Storage is very concerned about is maintaining the quality of the grains. Julio says that generally, the percentage of losses originate from over-drying caused by inadequate aeration in which the ideal moisture content for not having discounts is 14% in a few months of storage can drop to 10 or 11% which means 3 or 4% less weight. “This in itself already represents a significant loss in the producer’s earnings”, highlights the director of Qualygran. The Cycloar System contributes to reducing temperatures in the grain mass between 8 and 12 degrees “which represents a halt to moisture losses and the proliferation of insects in silos and warehouses, generating more gains for the producer”, says Julio, adding that you are welcome There is no point in taking all precautions when farming if, when it comes to storage, there are significant losses due to not using Cycloar technology and Precision Storage concepts.
