São Francisco Valley records new scale insects in orchards
The occurrence of six species of scale insects was recorded, for the first time, in the region
Six months ago, a climate disaster hit Rio Grande do Sul. Since May, Emater/RS has been working together with farmers and family agribusinesses to try to minimize losses caused by the rains and floods. This work continues months after the event, now aiming to prevent future climate crises.
The technical director and acting president of Emater/RS, Claudinei Baldissera, comments that the recovery actions in the state will be permanent. At the moment, plans are being made regarding climate issues, soils, droughts and mitigation actions. Now we are in a process together with the state secretariats, especially with the Secretariat of Rural Development, the Secretariat of Agriculture, the state government, with the municipalities, through Famurs and through all the municipalities that Emater maintains contact with throughout the territory of Rio Grande do Sul, dealing with the planning of actions for 2025, ATERs actions, he says.
Baldissera also explains that one of the sectors most affected by the disaster was soil management and conservation. For this reason, it has received attention from Emater/RS, aiming at its recovery. The issue of soils resulted in one of the most serious losses, affecting 405 municipalities and more than 2 million and 700 thousand hectares, which leads us to joint technical assistance actions, to provide work energy and consistent resources to recover the soils that were affected. But also to promote actions for environmental sustainability and conservation on the properties and leads us to very consistent steps in the future, explains the technical director.
Preventing or mitigating damage from future environmental crises is essential. Climate phenomena are a fact and have been proven by science. They are also increasingly recurrent in all forms that the world experiences, and agriculture needs to prepare itself. We do not know what the next climate phenomenon will be. Therefore, adequate preparation with the adoption of conservation practices, with planting within the windows that are suitable and consolidated by agroclimatic ornaments, environmental conservation within the property, water conservation, a set of conservation practices must be increasingly adopted to cope with the mitigation of the effects of climate, he concludes.
