Low temperatures impact second corn harvest
Conab estimates that the harvest reaches only 3,9% of the sown area
Paraná coffee harvest reaches 36% of the 713 thousand bags expected. And the average price of processed beans rises to R$ 2.083,57, almost double the amount recorded a year earlier.
The new value leaves a margin of almost R$900 over the total cost calculated in May by the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), which recorded R$1.186,69 per bag. The gain is attributed to the delay in sales.
According to agronomist Carlos Hugo Godinho, two thirds of production had already left the hands of producers when the peak occurred in February, a situation that prevented full use of prices.
Even so, the producing regions are now absorbing the increase. Carlópolis, in the Northern Pioneer region, the state leader, boosts its Gross Production Value from R$513 million to R$763 million in 2024. In the state, coffee production returns to the level of R$1,1 billion, compared to R$563 million in 2023.
In corn, producers have already harvested 227 thousand hectares of the 2,72 million planted. Around 54% of the area has matured, a condition that reduces the risk of frost. The remaining 46% still depends on benign weather, but is concentrated in the North, where extreme cold rarely occurs.
