Paraná's horticulture accounted for 5,1% of the state's Gross Value of Agricultural Production (GVP) in 2024, according to estimates from the Basic Statistics Division of the Department of Rural Economy (Deral). Paraná's total agricultural GVP was estimated at R$188,3 billion, with a strong focus on grain, cereal, and animal protein production.
Within horticulture, vegetables generated R$6,2 billion in gross value, equivalent to 3,5% of the state's GDP. The main highlight was potatoes, with R$1,4 billion in revenue, representing 20,8% of the sector's income. Tomatoes came next, with R$1,1 billion and a 16,7% share. Other vegetables totaled R$4,1 billion, corresponding to 62,5% of the segment.
In fruit production, VBP totaled 2,1% of the state's VBP, with 37 crops monitored by Deral. Oranges led the ranking with R$1,2 billion, followed by strawberries (R$705,3 million), grapes (R$323 million), bananas (R$256,5 million), and tangerines (R$204,4 million). Together, these five fruits accounted for 69,2% of the value generated by the sector.
Floriculture, with more than 40 cultivated species, generated R$271,7 million in 2024, equivalent to 0,1% of the state's GVP.
According to Deral agricultural engineer Paulo Andrade, despite representing a smaller fraction of Paraná's total agricultural income, horticulture plays a relevant role in regional economies, generating jobs and driving production chains in both rural and urban areas.
