Soybean post-harvest requires specific care

Those who work in the field know that, as soon as the harvest of one crop ends, it is time to start preparations for the next. In the case of soybeans, the manager of Satis' Technical Department, agronomist Aedyl Lauar, draws attention to the importance of some specific precautions that must be adopted immediately after the end of the harvest. "Some regions of RS, Goiás and Minas Gerais face a serious problem with white mold, a disease that drastically affects the productive potential of crops." He explains that this disease produces resistance structures in the pathogen (Sclerotia) that during harvest are thrown by the harvester choppers, spreading throughout the area, thus constituting a large source of inoculum for the next harvests. It also highlights that these resistance structures remain viable for many years.

To prevent this from happening, Lauar recommends that biological management be carried out immediately after harvesting with the use of Tribalance, a solution from Satis that presents a complex of Trichoderma species in its formulation. This is a category of fungi that work to balance the soil's microbial flora, improving the development of the root system and the absorption of nutrients, in addition to increasing the vigor and protection of plants. "This product favors the bioactivation of the environment, making it unfavorable for the germination of white mold resistance structures." He recalls that there are more than 450 plant species that are hosts for white mold and therefore advises that good management of weeds be carried out, so as not to encourage the spread of the pathogen.

For producers who plan to start winter crops, planting wheat and oats, for example, the agronomist advises that measures be taken to eliminate weeds that are difficult to control, such as horseweed, bitter grass, among others. In this sense, it is recommended to use specific herbicides, prioritizing the association of active ingredients to eliminate resistant plants. "Good phytosanitary and nutritional management, as well as weed control, are important measures to ensure that the next harvest has good results."
