The Thematic Project “Quality of soils in Brazil via geotechnologies: mapping, interpretation and agricultural/environmental applications – a legacy for society” opened a postdoctoral opportunity with a FAPESP scholarship. The registration deadline ends on August 30th.
With activities developed at the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture at the University of São Paulo (Esalq-USP), the project envisages the use of remote sensing data and machine algorithms with cloud processing to assess soil quality with agricultural and environmental. The study area covers the entire geographic area of Brazil.
The methodology involves obtaining soil quality indicators using remote sensing covariates, digital soil mapping and pedotransfer. Subsequently, the indicators will be weighted, according to the soil functions that each one represents, and integrated, using an additive approach, into a soil quality index for each of the five indicated depths.
Candidates can register by sending an email to professor José Alexandre Melo Demattê (jamdemat@usp.br).

The postdoctoral opportunity is open to Brazilians and foreigners. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral Scholarship worth R$ 8.479,20 per month and a Technical Reserve equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the scholarship to cover unforeseen expenses directly related to the research activity.
If the PD scholarship holder lives outside the city where the research host institution is located and needs to move, they may be entitled to an installation allowance. More information about the FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowship is available at www.fapesp.br/bolsas/pd.
