Trimble, a global technology company for positioning, modeling, connectivity and data analysis, brought together managers and professionals from the sugar-energy sector at Move Sucro 2024, at the end of June, in São José do Rio Preto (SP). With the theme "From planting to transportation: moving the future through management and innovation", the event's various panels focused on the role of Artificial Intelligence in connecting the physical and digital worlds to solve challenges in the area.
According to the balance carried out by the Sugarcane and Bioenergy Industry Union (Unica), sugarcane producers in the Center-South region of the country registered a record growth of 19,29% in raw material processed in the 2023/2024 harvest, compared to the previous period. An important part of the process for this result is transportation, which must be designed in a way that is safe and efficient to maximize the use of raw materials in the plants.
Therefore, the adoption of technologies for fleet management is a competitive differentiator for increasing productivity, reducing operational costs and ensuring operational safety. One of the challenges of the sugar-energy sector is precisely the operation of off-road vehicles, driven on unpaved terrain and in different weather conditions.
In this sense, the video telemetry solution, that is, the unification of video monitoring with vehicle telemetry in a single hardware, has proven to be effective in transmitting more complete and detailed information to managers about vehicle driving and the behavior of passengers. conductors. "I already had a unit with 32 incidents per thousand kilometers driven, which, in the second harvest after adopting Trimble Transportation Latam's fleet management technologies, recorded less than one incident. Our goal now is to have our entire structure with this technology, because I see it in a very positive way, both for management and cost, as well as for the performance of the equipment and, mainly, in terms of safety", reinforced Herivelton Lobo, Load and Transport Control manager at Bevap Bioenergia, during a panel on the theme.
According to an internal Trimble survey, out of every 100 incidents, 77% of them are caused by driver distraction. Although it came in second place, with 11%, fatigue still represents a critical risk, as it reduces the driver's reaction time. To this end, the company's video monitoring solutions include an intelligent fatigue and distraction sensor, which generates sound alerts in the cabin and in the operation control center in real time for immediate action and greater safety, also optimizing auditing in the event of accidents. .
"In one unit, we had around 30 accidents in a year with sugarcane trucks or trailers tipping over. It's been three years since we adopted technologies from Trimble Transportation Latam for fleet management and we had zero accidents in the last year. If we compare the cost of accidents with technology, it is an investment that has already paid off, and today the operators themselves understand that these solutions are important for their safety", highlighted Marindalvo Faustino, Planning and Costs coordinator at ZIlor.
Intelligence in data analysis Intelligence, which is a set of intelligence modules inserted into the Vfleets fleet management software, from Trimble Transportation Latam, is another example of a solution that allows managers to adjust routes in real time to avoid adverse terrain or unfavorable weather conditions, or even identifying and correcting risky behavior by drivers. Video telemetry also makes it possible to reduce operational costs by reducing fuel consumption and vehicle wear.
