This week, the Fundecitrus Harvest Estimation Research (PES) team began visiting orchards in the citrus belt of São Paulo and Triângulo/Southwest Minas Gerais, collecting information to update the tree inventory, which will be used to estimate the next orange harvest. , 2020/21.
In this first phase of the work, which lasts until March, agents and field assistants count plants in selected plots (5% of plots from the primary base, in 2018) to obtain the number of productive, unproductive and eradicated trees in the citrus park. .
In the next phase, 2.560 trees will be felled in selected plots. The harvested material is separated by bloom to count and weigh the fruits, and the quantity of fruits per tree and the average weight of the fruits are obtained here.
Using statistical work, combining previous data makes it possible to estimate the harvest, with what should be harvested by sector, variety and age of trees.
