PepsiCo – one of the largest food manufacturers in the world – and Arysta LifeScience – a global manufacturer of crop protection solutions – have signed an agreement to produce healthier potatoes in Chile, with less impact on the environment and reduced waste levels .

The project, called Bio-Alliance, strengthens the practices already adopted by Pepsico to improve the quality of its product line, including holding the Rainforest Alliance Seal in Chile. For Arysta, the partnership recognizes the investment in plant health and more sustainable products from its Pronutiva program, which differentiates the company globally and, particularly, in Latin America.

Under the agreement, the select group of Chilean potato producers that exclusively supply PepsiCo will now use solutions from Arysta's Pronutiva program, which combines traditional crop protection products with biological solutions.

PepsiCo is one of the largest buyers of potatoes in Chile. Producers served by Bio-Aliança produce around 50 thousand tons in 1.500 hectares of potatoes in all regions of the country. Chile produces more than 1 million tons of potatoes per year. The crop generates US$ 20 million a year in agricultural pesticides.

“The Bio-Alliance project will allow PepsiCo to offer healthier and safer food to consumers. For Arysta, it is the recognition of the Pronutiva program as an effective and sustainable solution for farmers”, explains Fabio Torretta, CEO of Arysta LatAm.

Marcelo Gardel, general manager of Arysta Chile and Peru, informs that the agreement allows Arysta to triple its participation in a market that seeks new technologies and is of growing importance for Chilean agriculture, in addition to actively participating in the country's potato production chain. . “The Bio-Alliance project positions Arysta among the three largest potato pesticide industries in Chile,” he says.

Nelson Campos, Southern Cone Agribusiness Manager at PepsiCo, highlights that the Bio-Alliance project, signed between PepsiCo and Arysta, opens the doors to partnerships that can reach other countries in Latin America.
