Partnership carries out drone spraying in Minas Gerais

The companies Melhoramentos Florestal, Skydrones and Schroder Consultoria carried out a joint project aimed at the first spraying of herbicides and foliar fertilizers with the Pelicano drone in eucalyptus forests in Minas Gerais.

The new technique was evaluated on January 10th and 11th, 2018, in the municipality of Camanducaia, where Melhoramentos has an industrial plant and forestry plantations. The equipment used was the Pelicano spraying drone, from Skydrones, a company based in Porto Alegre.

Applications of desiccant herbicide were carried out pre-planting the seedlings and to control eucalyptus sprouting, in addition to foliar fertilizer to address nutritional deficiencies in the trees. The forestry engineers at Melhoramentos highlighted the feasibility of using a drone on steep terrain, where it is impossible to work with tractor-driven equipment. Replacing manual applications on terrain with difficult walking is also a goal to be achieved.
