Orplana reinforces transparency in the review of Consecana/SP

Orplana (Organization of Associations of Sugarcane Producers of Brazil) reaffirmed its commitment to governance and transparency in the review process of the technical parameters of Consecana São Paulo. The review is being conducted by Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and follows the procedure previously agreed upon by the participating entities.

According to an official statement from Consecana/SP, the preliminary study submitted by FGV must be analyzed by the G8 — a technical group formed by representatives from Orplana and Unica (the Sugarcane Industry Union) — before being forwarded to the Consecana board for final validation. Orplana confirmed that the study was finalized and submitted in April, but there are still pending methodological issues to be discussed within the scope of the technical group, as provided for in the system's governance rules.

“This entire process is being conducted responsibly, transparently and with a commitment to the principles of the Consecana São Paulo bylaws, aiming to ensure equity among the links in the production chain. The producer needs to have clarity about the process and we will not compromise on that,” stated Orplana CEO José Guilherme Nogueira (pictured).

The entity regretted Unica's absence from the meetings held on April 14 and 30, which, according to Orplana, compromised the technical and institutional progress of the review. Despite this, it reinforced that it has been conducting the process in a collegial manner and in accordance with Consecana's statute.

“There was no breach of governance on Orplana’s part or attempt to conduct the process unilaterally. On the contrary: the review process never had structured governance, and we were able to implement this progress. We remain firm in our purpose of guaranteeing the representation and rights of producers, strictly respecting the agreements signed between the parties. The entire sector deserves these clarifications so that there are no imbalances and equity is guaranteed between the parties,” concluded Nogueira.
