Orplana - Organization of Brazilian Sugarcane Producers Associations received, this past Tuesday (16/05), the support of the Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, in approving the project that expands the gains from Decarbonization Credits (CBIO) for sugarcane producers, within the RenovaBio program (National Biofuels Policy). Currently, legislation restricts the benefit to industry only, excluding raw material producers.
The meeting was held in Brasília/DF and also included the participation of federal deputies Arnaldo Jardim (Citizenship), Ana Paula Leão (Progressive) and representatives of deputy Marussa Boldrin (MDB).
“The focus of the meeting was the Ministry of Agriculture's support for CBIOs and their payment to rural producers and we had a very positive reception. The minister was fully in support of our request”, highlighted the president of Orplana, Gustavo Rattes de Castro.
Bill 3149/2020, in addition to dealing with the remuneration of CBios, provides for the division of sales values in the proportion of 80% to rural producers. The text is already being processed in the Chamber of Deputies with approval from the Agriculture Committee. It is currently being analyzed by the Mines and Energy Commission and will subsequently go to the Environment and Sustainable Development, Finance and Taxation and Constitution and Justice commissions.
“The minister stated that he will not obstruct the agenda and will personally speak to federal deputies so that the project is approved, as CBIOs are important components in the field’s revenue list and help maintain the activity, generating economic benefits for workers” , declared Castro.
Orplana represents 32 sugarcane supplier associations in five Brazilian states and almost 11 thousand sugarcane producers throughout Brazil.
