The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) published on Tuesday (31/06), in the Official Gazette of the Union, the Ordinance No. 581 which defines the criteria for prioritizing registration processes for agrochemicals and similar products based on the pests that currently cause most concern in agriculture.

The Regulation meets the recommendations of the Federal Audit Court (TCU) for Mapa to adopt objective and transparent criteria for prioritizing the analysis of registration processes. In this way, the selected claims will be published by the registering body and their processes will be prioritized by federal health and environmental bodies.

“The registration processes for phytosanitary products with approved use for organic agriculture already had priority treatment established by Decree 4.074/2002. Now, the Map defines the prioritization of agrochemicals and the like for phytosanitary reasons that aim to control important pests for agriculture, in compliance with the Decree No. 10.833, of 2021”, explains the general coordinator of Pesticides and Related Products, André Peralta.

The selection process will have the following steps: determination of the list of priority pests for agriculture by the Department of Plant Health and Agricultural Inputs; identification of processes that address prioritized pests; application of the criteria defined in this standard for ranking the processes already submitted and publishing the list of processes that will be prioritized.

“The criteria, in addition to aiming at innovation in the control of important pests, seek to promote the competitiveness, manufacturing and national formulation of agrochemicals that target these pests”, highlights Peralta.

According to the published rules, registrant companies will be able to apply up to 20 processes, among those already registered, for the selection of formulated product prioritization. With this, Mapa hopes to forward around 40 processes to Anvisa and Ibama to be analyzed within a year, allowing it to offer pest control options considered a priority by the Ministry.
