The Ministry of Infrastructure, through the National Traffic Secretariat (Senatran), published in the Official Gazette This Tuesday (15/03) the regulation of trains with 11 axles and the capacity to transport up to 91 tons of sugarcane. Ordinance 268/2022 was signed by the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, yesterday, at the headquarters of the Sugarcane Industry Union (UNICA), in São Paulo.
The expansion of the configurations of Cargo Vehicle Combinations (CVC) with a total combined gross weight of 74 tons to up to 91 tons was approved last year by the National Traffic Council (Contran) after a study commissioned from the National Road Safety Observatory.
The measure represents progress in efficiency and sustainability for the sugar-energy sector. One of the positive impacts of this expansion is the reduction of polluting gas emissions when transporting sugarcane from the farm to the plants.
The Ordinance also regulated the use of semi-trailers equipped with 4 axles by the sector. The next sugarcane harvest begins in April.
