Onions were once again highlighted with the fall in prices in the country's Supply Centers (Ceasas). In the 1st Prohort 2020 Bulletin, released this Thursday (23), the indispensable product in Brazilian cuisine recorded drops in the last month of up to 26,51% in Curitiba (PR) and 23,20% in Vitória (ES). The study is carried out monthly by the National Supply Company (Conab), linked to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), with the most representative vegetables in the main Brazilian Ceasas.

According to the bulletin, the price reduction was influenced by the increase in onion supply, due to northeastern production in the São Francisco Valley and in the southern states of the country, mainly Santa Catarina. The increase in production increased sales in the markets by around 10%, which contributed to the drop in prices. This movement continues in January.

Other vegetables such as tomatoes, potatoes and lettuce saw their prices predominantly rise. Carrots, on the other hand, did not show a uniform trend, that is, there was a drop in prices in some Ceasas and an increase in others.

Fruits

Regarding fruits, the study highlights the drop in the price of papaya. The reason was the increase in supply in most wholesale warehouses, with a reduction in demand at the end of last year. On the other hand, there was an increase in the price of bananas in all Ceasas, due to the reduction in supply, mainly in relation to dwarf bananas.

The study also shows that fruit exports increased by 14,74% compared to 2018, with emphasis on exports of melons, mangoes, lemons, limes, grapes, bananas and watermelons and a drop in apples and oranges.
