The Weather and Climate Monitoring Center of Mato Grosso do Sul (Cemtec/MS) issued an alert for the arrival of a polar air mass between May 27 and June 5, with the possibility of localized frosts in the state. Minimum temperatures may vary between 5°C and 9°C, with a greater risk in municipalities close to the border and with wetter soil. The phenomenon may harm crops corn in sensitive stages of development, such as VT, R1, R2 and R3, which represent more than 60% of the cultivated area.

According to a survey by the Siga-MS Project, carried out by Aprosoja/MS, crops in the northeast, north, west and southwest regions of the state — which correspond to 44% of the planted area — were in predominantly good condition until May 16. The central, southeast, south-border and southern regions, responsible for 56% of the area, are showing greater concern due to the water deficit and lower performance.

For Aprosoja/MS, even if severe impacts are not expected, the meteorological alert requires attention from producers. The entity reinforces the importance of constant monitoring, data-based agricultural planning and strategies to mitigate losses.
