The Australian Nufarm and the JapaneseSumitomo brings together a group of agrochemical distributors and agribusiness consultants this week in the Argentine capital. The event concludes the Sumy 2016 Program, an initiative that brings together the two companies in the search for cutting-edge solutions for weed control. The Buenos Aires meeting will also be dedicated to the debate on weed resistance to glyphosate in the three main soybean producing countries: the United States, Brazil and Argentina.
According to Nufarm's manager of herbicides and adjuvants, agronomist Carlos Mella, the event's schedule also includes a visit to Argentine crop areas, with the aim of observing the performance of Nufarm's ZethaMaxx herbicide on the difficult weed. control Amaranthus palmeri. “It is one of the most harmful weeds in American and Argentine agriculture, whose presence was also recently detected in soybeans in Mato Grosso. With it, production loss can exceed 90%”, summarizes Mella.
According to the executive director of Nufarm, Vitor Raposo, another highlight of the Buenos Aires program will be the dissemination of the best demonstration fields set up in the 2015-16 harvest, by distributors and consultants from Nufarm and Sumitomo. In these areas, adds the executive, several weed management strategies were researched using the herbicides Sumyzin® and ZethaMaxx, the first of which was developed by Sumitomo and distributed by Nufarm.
“Together, Nufarm and Sumitomo have recently taken important steps in developing cutting-edge technologies for difficult-to-control weeds in key agricultural crops. This partnership is anchored in innovation and also in new market access tools”, celebrates Raposo.
According to the sales director for Latin America at Sumitomo Chemical, José Luís Luporini, the partnership between the two companies solidified in the 2015-16 period, especially with regard to product distribution and training of sales teams. “Sumitomo is expected to increase the number of products distributed by Nufarm in the coming periods, and we will also continue together with the Sumy Program, to expand Brazilian farmers' access to cutting-edge technologies”, highlights the executive.
