Fruit Fly Alert reduces costs for proper management
The alert system is an important step towards food safety and traceability
Paraná is the largest national wheat producer in the country, responsible for sowing half of the Brazilian cereal. Good performance comes from the sum of genetic improvement efforts and the application of better management techniques by the farmer. In this edition of BelaSafra, wheat cultivation is among the highlights, after all, in the Cambé/PR region, 300 thousand hectares of the cereal are cultivated annually. The event has been promoted for 19 years by Belagrícola and takes place between January 28th and 31st, 2020.
In this edition of BelaSafra, three wheat cultivars will be presented to producers. To serve the niche market that seeks a lighter flour that performs well in baking, the whitening wheat cultivar, TBIO Duque, was developed. Gabriel Piccoli Guarido, commercial supervisor at Biotrigo Genética, explains that whitening wheat is highly valued by the industry, being essential for obtaining high-quality flour. “TBIO Duque reinforces the whitening wheat project aimed at segregation work in receiving units. It is a whitening wheat that stands out in the market due to its excellent health, unprecedented in this market, making it easier to manage the crop, in addition to having excellent industrial quality for baking and a wide area of adaptation, including wheat-growing areas in cold and hot climates”, he reports. Another important aspect is its greater level of safety against rain during pre-harvest. “Wheats classified as whitening normally show sensitivity to germination in the ear and high susceptibility to the main wheat diseases, both foliar and ear, and, despite being productive and presenting excellent quality, they require more care in management. “In the case of TBIO Duque, it has good tolerance to germination on the cob and common crop diseases, standing out as the only bleacher with good tolerance to Blast, an important fact for risk regions. Furthermore, it offers significantly higher production potential than other whiteners,” he adds. TBIO Duque is commercially available to producers this harvest.
Another novelty that will also be available to wheat multipliers this harvest is the first Brazilian cultivar with Clearfield technology, a system that introduced tolerance to herbicides from the imidazolinone group, more precisely to the active ingredient imazamoxi (Raptor 70DG) in the cereal. The resource, with results in rice cultivation, is coming in a pioneering way to wheat cultivation, in a partnership between Biotrigo Genética and Basf. The objective is to offer a new tool to control plants that are most resistant to herbicides, such as ryegrass and oats, which are very common in wheat crops. Bruno Alves, northern regional manager at Biotrigo, highlights that technology will also strengthen the production system, efficient management and increase profitability with quality. “TBIO Capricho CL has a medium-late cycle and brings industrial quality approved by the industry and ease of handling. Areas with high infestations of resistant weeds will finally be able to return to wheat cultivation,” he explains. The cultivar will be available for seed multiplication in 2020.
Responsible for breaking three records within Biotrigo's breeding program, TBIO Astro will also be presented at the event. According to Gabriel, the super early cycle Improver wheat proved to be superior in three aspects: high resistance to germination on the cob and to lodging and also Gluten Strength (W) with average W values of 550 (Brazil average). “It is our best wheat in these regards, and also has an outstanding PH”, he reports. The cultivar will be available for seed multiplication in 2020.
Bela Safra is an annual fair where products and services linked to the agricultural sector are presented, offering alternatives from the choice of grain to the commercialization of the harvest, in addition to a circuit of technical lectures on soybean, corn and wheat crops, presentation of projects and business desk. The expectation in this 19th edition is to attract more than 8 thousand rural producers from Paraná, Santa Catarina and São Paulo. According to Belagrícola's High Technology and Nutrition coordinator, Fernando Melatti Moreira, the proposal for this year's BelaSafra theme - “We are Agro” - is to unite everyone involved in the production chain under the same identity, highlighting the characteristics and qualities of the productive sector. “We have seen wheat growing in recent years in BelaSafra and the region and the presence of the best technologies from market leader Biotrigo strengthens Belagrícola’s image and concern for the entire production system throughout the year”, he comments.
