New Simagro-RS monitoring stations begin to be installed

The project to revitalize and install new meteorological stations of the Agroclimatic Monitoring and Alerts System (Simagro-RS) is in full swing in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul this January. Since 16/01, two new stations have been installed in the municipalities of Montenegro, in partnership with the University of Santa Cruz do Sul (Unisc), and Santo Ângelo, in partnership with the Federal Institute Farroupilha. And seven other existing ones were revitalized, in the municipalities of Maquiné, Caxias do Sul, Vacaria, Veranópolis, Taquari, Santa Maria and Júlio de Castilhos.

By the end of this week, three new stations will be installed in Cerro Largo, Itaqui and Alegrete and those in São Gabriel and Hulha Negra will be revitalized. The stations are used for climate monitoring and the correct use of phytosanitary products. Simagro-RS also has weather and climate models, where agrometeorological products are generated for all 497 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul.
According to meteorologist Flávio Varone, coordinator of Simagro-RS, the installation and revitalization of the stations ends next week. “We will have 20 stations from the former Fepagro network, now the Department of Agricultural Diagnostics and Research (DDPA), and 30 new ones installed, totaling 50 of our own stations in operation”, highlights Varone. 

The stations to be installed next week are located in the cities of Pelotas, Encruzilhada, Eldorado do Sul, Cachoeirinha and Viamão and a new station in Esteio, in the Assis Brasil Exhibition Park.
