Agrishow Special: New sugarcane harvester line will be launched by Case IH at Agrishow 2018
Drone, sprayer and high-power tractor will also be highlights at the main agricultural fair in Latin America
RISA, the largest agribusiness group in the MATOPIBA region, presented this week its new line of fertilizers based on Lithothamnium seaweed: Lithogen. Developed in partnership with Oceana Brasil, a pioneering company in the research and development of products using algae, this new technology promises to revolutionize agriculture in the country. The event took place in the city of Balsas/MA, on a RISA group farm, and was attended by the region's main soybean and corn producers.
The new technology was developed exclusively for RISA, taking into account the specific characteristics of MATOPIBA. As it is a product of biological origin with more than 70 nutrients (including minerals and amino acids), its use increases the nutrient richness of the soil, one of the biggest problems in the region. Conventional treatments are time-consuming and expensive. Furthermore, the use of biological fertilizers improves the absorption of nutrients present in the soil by the roots. It is this bioavailability that allows, in addition to the increase in productivity, a significant improvement in the quality of crops, with greater harvest durability and firmer grains.
During the event, experts from Oceana Brasil presented the tests underway at the RISA farm, where participants were able to observe the difference in plant growth, such as the size of leaves and roots. They also demonstrated results in crops in different regions of the country. “Field work, associated with intense scientific studies, has increasingly allowed the development of high-yield biological products, which help to increase the productivity of farmers in all regions”, says Ricardo Macedo, research and development manager at Oceana Brazil. “Far beyond the increase in productivity, organic fertilizers, from Lithothamnium seaweed, also improve the quality of products, at a lower cost, meeting the main demands of producers”, guarantees Macedo, who is also the main researcher on the use of Lithothamnium algae in Brazil.
The results so far using Lithothamnium are incredible. RISA itself achieved a total increase of 1.098 bags in an area of 182 hectares, in its crops in the state of MA. In the state of Paraná, farmers in the city of Palmeira increased their average from 133 sc/alq to 151 sc/alq, with a return on investment of R$810,00 per bushel. In Goiás, experiments in the city of Silvania demonstrated an increase in productivity of almost 7%, from 39 to 42,6 bags per hectare.
Products based on Lithothamnium seaweed can be certified as organic, as, in addition to being 100% natural, it is proven to have the highest degree of purity on the market. The Lithothamnium extracted by Oceana grows in an ideal environment, with sea currents and solar incidence that are unique in the world. The company works and invests in cutting-edge research and technology and in the control and monitoring of biological life, to maintain the environmental balance of the deposit region and guarantee the quality of the products.
