Multiple resistance to diseases is a constant search in the improvement strategy. In addition to the pillar of technology and sustainability, the new FiberMax varieties are now available throughout Brazil and have multiple resistance to help farmers with their main needs in the field.

Technologies with multiple resistance offer greater control of diseases and pests, in addition to providing high production potential and world-class fiber quality in cotton crops.

“These new high-tech irrigated varieties will expand the options for managing weeds and caterpillars, providing better cotton development. BASF believes in the legacy of Brazilian cotton farming, which is highly technological and competitive”, says Marcus Lawder, FiberMax product manager at BASF.

Technology, productivity and quality

BASF positions itself as a long-term partner for the Brazilian farmer. The new varieties reach the market with GLTP technology (GlyTol LibertyLink e TwinLink Plus) associated with multiple resistance genes (features natives), which offer high productive potential for cultivation.

Varieties with GLTP technology are tolerant to Liberty herbicides and glyphosate, which offers greater flexibility for weed management. The technology also offers advanced caterpillar control, facilitating farm management and protecting the variety's productive potential.

Innovation

BASF is also working on the development of TLP technology. TLP cotton has three proteins that guarantee the best protection against cotton bollworms and tolerance only to the herbicide Liberty (ammonium glufosinate). TLP cotton is focused on the Brazilian market, meeting local demand. BASF has a long-term partnership with the country's cotton farmers to develop solutions that contribute to the farmer's legacy.

Future vision

There are approximately 500 cotton farmers in Brazil, guided by the pillars of traceability, sustainability and quality. Júlio Cézar Busato, president of Abrapa (Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers) highlights the growth of the market in the country. “My expectation is that Brazil will become the world's leading exporter of cotton. It will only be a matter of time.”

Sustainability

FiberMax supports the Sou de Algodão movement, an initiative that promotes responsible production, with respect for the environment and workers. Brazil is the only place that has a project of such magnitude and is the largest supplier of sustainable cotton in the world, certified by the Responsible Brazilian Cotton (ABR) program.

“We support the Sou de Algodão Movement because it encourages the use of natural fiber in the country. Furthermore, we believe in developing sustainability actions in the production chain”, concludes Lawder.
