New corn hybrids from Bayer have up to 11 more bags per hectare in the 2020/21 harvest

According to the most recent survey by the National Supply Company (Conab), the estimated grain harvest this year will be lower than predicted at the beginning of the year, partly due to the decrease in corn productivity. The crop was impacted by the low rainfall between the months of April and May and, therefore, the expectation is that cereal production will reach 96,4 million tons, with 24,7 million tons in the first harvest, 69,9 .1,7 million in the second and 6 million in the third, a 2019% reduction over 20/XNUMX production.

Uncertainties and climatic pressures make it essential that producers look for seeds with biotechnology suited to their needs, which offer greater efficiency in crop protection, always seeking good productivity and profitability, in addition to being allies in integrated pest management.

The historic increase in grain production productivity is the result of constant investments by Brazilian farmers in new technologies. This is one of the reasons why Bayer's agricultural division invests in research and development of new seed technologies, as is the case with the corn seed brands Sementes Agroceres and Dekalb, as explained by Danilo Pereira, product manager for corn at Bayer. "The new products, which were developed especially for the southern region of Brazil, are available on the market for the 2020/2021 summer harvest and showed excellent test results", says Pereira.

Sementes Agroceres highlights AG9021PRO3, a hybrid with a hyper early cycle that complements the brand's solutions for the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. According to data from tests carried out in areas of more than one hundred producers in these regions during the harvest 2020/21, the AG9021PRO3 produced an average of six more bags of cereal per hectare compared to the main hybrids on the market, with a significantly lower harvest humidity, which proves the hybrid's difference.

The Dekalb brand launched the DKB235PRO3 hybrid, which combines a fast cycle and productivity. Its high productive potential combined with leaf health elevates the hybrid to a higher level in terms of productivity, thus strengthening Dekalb's portfolio in the southern region of Brazil. Even in a year with many technical challenges such as drought and virus epidemics, the new launch of Dekalb helped the farmer harvest 11 more bags per hectare compared to the main brands present on the market today, proving its great adaptation to the region and extremely high productive potential.

The products reach the market with VTPRO3 technology, the first to help protect corn roots against plant attack. Diabrotica speciosa (pinworm) and in protection up to the ear against attacks from aerial part caterpillars, in addition to being tolerant to glyphosate and providing greater flexibility in weed management.

"Innovation is a strategic priority for Bayer and is essential for us to face one of the main challenges imposed on the global food system: producing more per hectare with increasingly optimized use of resources. The Brazilian producer is our great partner and knows that Bayer hybrids deliver several benefits, especially the potential increase in productivity", highlights the specialist.

In addition to the hybrids mentioned, both the Dekalb brand and Sementes Agroceres e Agroeste make RefúgioMax hybrids available to producers, an ideal and exclusive seed brand for planting corn refuge. "We always reinforce with farmers the importance of practicing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to preserve the benefits of biotechnology. And one of the main pillars for this preservation is the implementation of structured refuge, which helps to reduce the population of resistant insects and , thus, aims to protect the productivity potential of the crop", adds Pereira.
