In a planned succession move, Nairo Piña will take over as president of Sumitomo Chemical in Latin America, effective April 1. Executive José de Paulo Fabretti, who dedicated 20 years to the company and has 43 years of experience in the agrochemicals sector, will step down at the end of March.

In 2024, Piña had been promoted to vice president of Agro Solutions for Latin America, as announced in Cultivar Magazine. However, the succession process began more than three years ago. During the 2023/2024 period, preparations were intensified with Piña dividing his time between São Paulo and Tokyo, Sumitomo Chemical's global headquarters. He actively participated in the transition process alongside Japanese executives.

With a degree in Agricultural Engineering, an Executive MBA and a Master’s in Business Management and Strategic Marketing, Nairo Piña has over 27 years of experience in the agricultural and livestock sector. His career includes 18 years leading international projects in Latin America. He joined Sumitomo Chemical in 2011 and, in addition to his new responsibilities as President, he also contributes to the company’s Global Strategy as Global Strategic Marketing Leader.
