Agrodefesa has been working to prevent the quarantine pest from spreading in the region
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a warning today for heavy rains and significant volumes starting this morning on April 24 in the states of Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná. The scenario is expected to persist until Friday (25), caused by the presence of a low pressure area in the upper levels of the atmosphere, combined with the availability of heat and high humidity in the region.
Rainfall volumes are expected to range from 50 mm to 100 mm in 24 hours, accompanied by wind gusts of up to 100 km/h. The most affected regions are expected to be the Pantanal and several municipalities in Paraná, such as Cascavel and Cianorte.
Other parts of the country are expected to register yellow warning rainfall (potential danger) starting this Wednesday (24). The most critical areas are the North and Central-West regions, as well as Maranhão, Piauí, Ceará and parts of Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Bahia and Minas Gerais.
Rains could also hit areas of São Paulo from Friday (25).
