The overall movement of Paraná ports between January and April 2025 was 22.837.680 tons, a figure 6,8% higher than that recorded in the same period last year, which totaled 21.377.501 tons. The volume points to a sequence of good performance after a year with the highest volume of exports and imports in history.
Soybean grains accounted for the largest export volume, with 5.495.034 tons, an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2024 (4.985.019 tons). Soybean meal also showed a significant increase in the period, rising from 1.986.107 tons in 2024 to 2.407.836 tons in 2025 — an increase of 21%.
In terms of imports, the highlight goes to fertilizers, which reached the mark of 3.395.960 tons handled in the ports of Paraná between January and April this year. The volume is 7% above the same period last year, when 3.179.252 tons of the product were registered.
“The constant growth of Paraná ports in recent years is the result of the rigorous work of the technical team, both in logistics and throughout the entire operational process,” said the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia.
Due to the high demand for soybeans and bran, vehicle movement broke a historic record at the Paranaguá Port Sorting Yard in the same period. From January to April this year, 181.651 trucks passed through the sorting process, surpassing the previous record registered in the same period in 2020, with 175.280 vehicles.
Focused on receiving solid vegetable bulk, the yard received mostly loads of soybeans (5.495.034 tons) and soybean meal (2.407.836 tons) in the first four months of the year. Most of these loads came from the states of Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul.
“We have a rigorous analysis system that guarantees customers receive products free from contaminating materials, which increases international interest in our products,” stated the Operations Director of Portos do Paraná, Gabriel Vieira.
The main objectives of the Sorting Yard are to remove excess vehicles from the access roads to the port and to assess the quality of the cargo to be exported. The structure is also responsible for scheduling the day and time of entry of each truck, avoiding queues on the BR-277.
Container movement also appears to be good. TCP, the company that manages the Paranaguá Container Terminal, located within the port structure managed by Portos do Paraná, was, for the second consecutive year, the terminal in the South region that handled the most containers in the first quarter of the year.
According to the National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq), adding export, import and transshipment operations, TCP reached the mark of 372.446 TEUs (unit equivalent to a 20-foot container) handled, a record for the first quarter and representing a growth of 5,4% compared to the same period last year.
In addition to the large flow of container ships, the expectation for 2025 is an increase in movement due to the increase in draft – the depth between the lowest part of a vessel and the waterline – which went from 12,10 meters to 12,80 meters at zero tide. The works are the result of investment by Portos do Paraná. With an additional 70 centimeters of depth, ships that dock and depart from TCP's dock can transport an additional 560 TEUs per trip.
