Mosaic Fertilizers, a producer of combined phosphates and potassium, began training its suppliers in all its units in Brazil. The initiative is carried out by the Sustainability in the Value Chain Program, developed by the Ethos Institute, a reference institution in Brazil in business mobilization for sustainable operations. A pioneering project in the fertilizer sector aims to promote sustainability practices in the business processes of the company's suppliers.
“The partnership with Instituto Ethos makes it possible to engage the entire chain and also encourage other players in our market, establishing our commitment to responsible action. Having as partners well-managed companies that share our values and business practices is essential for the sustainability of our business strategy”, comments Arthur Liacre, vice-president of Corporate Affairs, Strategy and Sustainability at Mosaic Fertilizandos.
The purpose of the project is to offer diagnostics and management tools to improve suppliers' sustainability performance. Based on year-long training, participants receive instructions for diagnosing, planning and creating action plans to manage issues in their respective companies.
“Our mission is to mobilize, raise awareness and help companies manage their businesses in a socially responsible way. The Mosaic Fertilizers initiative is unprecedented in the market, enabling the engagement of other companies in the chain to make the environment increasingly sustainable”, adds Ivana Oliveira, project coordinator at Instituto Ethos.
The program, which has already completed its awareness phase, is now in the company diagnosis phase and will subsequently enter the thematic training phase in four modules, one per month; and mentoring with sustainability experts. The companies participating in the program are: CIMCOP, Etal, Grupo Itaeté, GRSA, MGM, NPE, Nóbrega Pimenta and Viação Andrade.
The Sustainability in the Value Chain program is another initiative to engage sustainable practices. When selecting business partners, the company seeks those who share the same ethical principles and operate in accordance with the country's legislation and the Mosaic Fertilizers Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. To ensure a beneficial relationship for companies and society, suppliers are chosen carefully and an objective selection process is used based on criteria that include safety performance, quality, reliability and price.
