Brazil could produce 4 million tons more soybean meal if biodiesel blending resumes in 2023
Biodiesel production stimulates the processing of soybeans as the oilseed is its main raw material and adds high value to the production chain.
Inspection teams from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) were in operation in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul to intensify supervision over the production, repackaging and commercialization of seeds of tropical forage species. The action was concentrated in the regions of Campo Grande (municipalities of Campo Grande, Bandeirantes and Terenos) and Chapadão do Sul (municipalities of Chapadão do Sul, Costa Rica, Camapuã and Paraíso das Águas).
Due to the discovery of irregularities, the sale of 96.030 kilos of seeds was precautionarily suspended. The inspection was in 18 establishments and issued 26 inspection terms and 12 infraction notices.
During the action, samples of seed lots were also collected to check whether the inspected products met the national identity and quality standards, established by Mapa. If the results of official analyzes demonstrate that the batches do not meet the standards, the respective producers will be fined for the irregularity.
“The task force was important since the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, in addition to being a large consumer, is a supplier of tropical forage seeds to other states in the country”, reports the general coordinator of Seeds and Seedlings, Virginia Carpi.
12 federal agricultural tax auditors and four agricultural or auxiliary activity agents participated in the operation, from the states of Bahia, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo, Sergipe, Santa Catarina and the Federal District.
