Monsoy recognizes multipliers that deliver more than 90% germination

Monsoy Multiplica Program in force for some harvests aims to encourage partners to produce seeds with increasingly higher quality

To ensure the success of his crop, the rural producer depends on several factors combined. However, it all starts with a seed with high productive potential so that the expected results can be achieved. For 35 years, the farmer from Rondonópolis, Mato Grosso, Carlos Ernesto Augustin, has worked with seed production. He says that in these more than three decades, a lot has changed in the way agriculture is done and how soybeans are produced.

“In these 35 years we have had a lot of changes. We bagged the soy in a jute bag and stuck paper as a label with cassava starch, because it was cheaper. And so, everything changed. A lot has changed in terms of value, what the seed contained inside and what it has today. Before, the seed was white, there was nothing, not even size classification,” he explains. On the 15 thousand hectares where it plants soybeans in the summer – corn and cotton in the off-season (winter) – the multiplier is able to produce more than 1 million bags of seeds with quality above 90% and high vigor. The recipe for this delivery, according to Augustin, is a lot of work and dedication.

In the southern region of the country, more than 1.700 km from Mato Grosso, the search for seed quality is also present. Producer Leandro Berlanda is also one of Monsoy's multipliers. On the property located in the Erechim region, in the north of Rio Grande do Sul, he plants 25 thousand hectares – between his own area and cooperatives – to multiply soybeans, always seeking the quality, productivity and vigor of the seed. Around 80 bags/ha of oilseed are harvested per harvest. “It is only possible to achieve this and offer a seed with what the farmer needs to have a good harvest, if he has responsibility and commitment”, he says.

With more than 20 years of history, Monsoy - Bayer's soybean seed brand - has become a reference on Mercadobay. In the 2017/2018 harvest, Monsoy celebrated its third year as the leader in soybean growers' preference, with a 29% market share, according to a survey carried out by the consultancy Kleffmann Group. Therefore, always thinking about quality and innovation, Monsoy created and has implemented the Monsoy Multiplica Program (PMM).

The objective is to encourage and recognize multipliers that produce seeds with at least 90% germination and high vigor. Multipliers will be able to count on this brand recognition from the next soybean harvest onwards. The idea is to encourage these partners to produce increasingly higher quality seeds.

“High quality seeds are essential in the search for high productivity in soybean cultivation. A high germination and vigor rate guarantees quality in the establishment of the crop, generating stronger and more vigorous plants. It is also important to emphasize the importance of acquiring certified seeds, which give the farmer the guarantee of genetic purity and high quality levels, in addition to the full support of a company specialized in seed production”, says the commercial manager of Monsoy, Alexandre Chaves.

For Augustin, who is one of the brand's multipliers, the program is something positive and welcome. “It is recognition that sets an example for others. It's a start. It’s something good for everyone, for us, for the brand and for customers, who value a job well done,” he said.

As for Berlanda, whoever benefits from this program is the market itself. “When the farmer buys a seed from the brand, he will know that it has quality, because Monsoy recognizes this, recognizes the need for a seed with high vigor and germination. This only encourages more and more”, concludes the multiplier.
