The sixth and most current generation of the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck line is presented today (21) to the Brazilian market. Completely new, the vehicle comes in six different versions — some of them with a lower launch price compared to the previous generation — and offers even more robustness, stability, safety and comfort.

Produced at the HPE Automotores factory in Catalão (GO), the pickup is the only one with Japanese technology manufactured on national soil, in the center of an important region of Brazilian agribusiness.

The pickup truck will be available for pre-sale starting in December at all 128 Mitsubishi Motors dealerships across Brazil. The first units are expected to arrive in stores starting next January.

The different versions cater to the most varied public profiles, from professionals in the field, to executives in a large metropolis or even lovers of trails and outdoor sports.

All of them are offered with the same engine, completely renewed compared to the previous generation, and with the following values:

  • Triton GL MT (exclusive for direct sale) - R$ 249.990
  • Triton GL – AT (exclusive for direct sales) - R$ 259.990
  • Triton GLS - R$ 265.990
  • Triton HPE - R$ 284.990
  • Triton HPE-S - R$ 314.990
  • Triton Katana - R$ 329.990

For the first time in the history of Mitsubishi Motors in Brazil, the vehicle is available in two top-of-the-line versions. The Katana, whose name refers to the high-precision and fast sword used by Japanese samurai, has a more youthful and sporty design, thanks to the dark finish abundant in several items. The name Katana is also associated with honor, discipline and the warrior spirit so present in Japanese culture.

Its “partner”, the HPE-S version, offers customers the same equipment, but with a classic and conservative appearance, thanks to the items with gray and chrome finishes.

With a five-year or 100-kilometer factory warranty, the model is set to be one of the most relevant in the 4x4 diesel mid-size pickup segment in Brazil, and honors all the tradition and legacy that the Triton pickup line has brought since its first generation, launched in Japan in 1978.

The Mitsubishi Triton line currently accounts for 48% of all Mitsubishi Motors models sold in Brazil. The arrival of the sixth generation to the market should further consolidate the model as one of the best options within the competitive segment of mid-size 4x4 diesel pickup trucks available in the country.

new structure

The sixth generation of the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck arrives completely renewed in relation to the previous generation, starting with a new chassis, also accompanied by a new body.

Based on the Mega Chassis concept, the new Triton's chassis is the most robust ever developed in the history of Mitsubishi Motors. Lighter and extremely resistant, it offers 60% more flexural rigidity and 40% more torsional rigidity compared to the previous generation.

The new structure is also considerably larger than the previous generation, with a 130-millimeter longer wheelbase, 20 millimeters longer overall length and 50 millimeters wider, providing more space for all occupants, whether in the front or rear seats.

Despite being larger, the pickup's dimensions are not exaggerated and it has the ideal size to offer more stability and easier driving, whether in a city with narrow streets or on a highway with five or more lanes, thanks to its excellent maneuverability and wide visibility.

New exterior design

The new body that debuts in this sixth generation of the Triton gives the pickup a unique appearance that conveys even more robustness and sophistication, without leaving aside the sporty and pioneering spirit, always present in the Triton line since its launch, more than four decades ago.

Entirely based on the “Beast Mode” design concept, it evokes a strong, robust vehicle prepared for any need.

At the front, the front grille divided into three parts is wide and wider than in the previous generation, as is the front bumper, painted in the body color, which features the already renowned concept Dynamic Shield with a glossy black finish, chrome or even body color, depending on the version.

The optical set features sharp LED DRLs with an “L” shape that resemble the eyes of a predator in search of its prey. Just below them are the turn signal lights, high beam and fog lights. This arrangement ensures a very modern and bold look for the model. The Katana version makes use of metallic black finishes, present in items such as the skid plate, door handles, rear view mirrors, fog light frames, tailgate frame, rear bumper and roof rack. The 18-inch wheels with a black finish give the final touch to the version's sporty and adventurous proposal.

In the other versions, the same finishes come in chrome or body color, and offer a clean and dynamic look, without losing the robust proposal present throughout the line.

As a way of assisting the vehicle's occupants, the side of the pickup truck can be equipped - depending on the version - with very wide side steps, designed to provide a non-slip platform for easy access to the vehicle's interior, even when in use. off-road and slippery conditions.

At the rear, the side projections of the bumper can serve as an access platform to the cargo bed when its lid is open, which makes it easier to access and accommodate loads.

In the bucket, the difference is in the lining X-Liner. Non-slip and scratch-resistant, the coating comes as standard on all versions and offers extreme durability and practicality to occupants. It replaces the removable plastic protection present on some competitors and is completely waterproof.

The “T” shaped LED taillights reinforce the body’s sense of width and evoke the robustness present in the model.

The Katana version is also equipped with a stylized Santo Antônio in metallic black with detail in Dark Titanium, for an even more robust and sporty look.

Sophisticated interior

Just like the exterior, the interior of the new Mitsubishi Triton is completely new compared to the previous generation. Absolutely everything is new, starting with the larger size, thanks to the increased width and wheelbase, which provides even more space between the seats for all its occupants.

The on-board experience is completely intuitive and modern and combines the use of touch screens with physical buttons and displays, all made with durable, finely finished materials, easily arranged and always at hand for occupants.

The entire interior of the new Mitsubishi Triton was designed under the concept of a “horizontal axis”, that is, through a single line that runs from the center of the steering wheel to the end of the central panel, all controls are aligned, which makes life on board totally intuitive, easy to use, in addition to providing a feeling of greater spaciousness for the occupants.

The physical buttons are ideal for easy use in difficult terrain situations since, regardless of the vibration imposed by the ground, they are easily activated.

The three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel is smaller than the previous generation and offers excellent ergonomics – in addition to height and depth adjustments – and very simple and quick control operation by the driver.

The driver also has access to a new instrument panel, capable of meeting the needs of all customer profiles. The speed, temperature, fuel level and tachometer displays are physical, while all other information is displayed on a 7-inch, high-definition panel. It displays a wide range of information about the pickup's operation, such as on- or off-road driving mode, consumption figures, map, driving and safety information, among others.

Aligned with the instrument panel is the new entertainment system, with a nine-inch, high-definition touchscreen. Compatible with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, the system offers several functions fully integrated with up to two cell phones simultaneously, that is, while the passenger controls the choice of a playlist, the driver's cell phone can project Waze or Google Maps onto the screen.

In addition to the controls on the screen itself, occupants also have physical buttons at their disposal that control numerous functions, ranging from air conditioning intensity and temperature controls dual-zone, up to the 360º camera system available in the Katana version.

The panel also has two glove compartments, one traditional, larger and illuminated, and another on the top, with a lid, ideal for storing documents and easily accessible items, an example of how design should offer elegance and functionality.

The HPE, HPE-S and Katana versions also offer a new way of wirelessly charging cell phones – in addition to the already known USB-A and USB-C auxiliary outputs, for both the front and rear rows – as well as 12V charging sockets in the front and rear center consoles.

The extensive use of premium leather combined with finishes soft touch High-quality upholstery reinforces the sophisticated feel that the pickup offers its occupants. The leather seats, which in the Katana and HPE-S versions feature contrasting stitching, are undoubtedly the most comfortable and ergonomic in the category, ideal for long trips.

The interior also features an even more efficient air conditioning system thanks to the air vents located on the ceiling, which allow the entire cabin to be cooled more quickly by capturing the cooled air from the first row and transferring it to the back row. Rear seat passengers can adjust the ventilation intensity to up to four levels using a control located on the ceiling.

Engine and gearbox

The entire sixth-generation Mitsubishi Triton lineup is equipped with the new 4N16 diesel engine Super High Power dual-turbine 2.4-liter engine, which produces 205 hp of power and 47,9 kgf.m of torque.

The engine has dual overhead camshafts (DOHC), QPM chain drive, high-pressure fuel supply system and direct fuel injection. These systems offer better torque delivery linearity and very fast responses to accelerator pedal commands.

Combined with the six-speed automatic transmission system with INVECS-II adaptive calibration, the new generation of the Mitsubishi Triton is certainly the most economical mid-size pickup in its category.

The SCR (urea) system, integrated into the post-treatment system with a 17-liter tank, guarantees more than 10 thousand kilometers of autonomy for the vehicle, resulting in very low emission levels, without compromising the linearity of torque delivery, intuitive responses to accelerator pedal commands and fast transmission with INVECS-II adaptive calibration.

New suspension system

If the proposal of the new Mitsubishi Triton is to be even more robust and comfortable in relation to previous generations, the suspension system is also one of the main reasons for delivering these characteristics.

It is completely new and has been designed to offer maximum comfort, safety and stability on any type of terrain, regardless of the weight of the load the pickup can carry. The modifications have significantly improved comfort and driving performance on any type of terrain.

The front suspension uses a double wishbone system (Double Wishbone), while the rear suspension uses the traditional leaf spring assembly, with adjustments perfectly suited to both urban and off-road use.

The suspension travel is also 20 millimeters longer, delivering better grip and traction on dirt, mud, rocks and gravel.

Traction

The traction system offered in the Triton line has been one of the main reasons why the pickup is the most robust on the market for years. In this new generation, it is even better.

The new Triton is the only one in its category to offer 7 driving mode options – Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock – which adjust traction and performance according to the chosen surface.

No matter the situation, the new Mitsubishi Triton adapts to the terrain and makes any transition easier with comfort and reliability for the driver. Another highlight is the exclusive Gravel mode, which allows maximum speed on gravel or slippery surfaces.

The Super Select 4WD-II (SS4-II) system offers the driver four distinct operating modes, including low range, ideal for driving on different types of terrain. Using the selector on the center console, the driver can easily choose the best setting depending on the location and road surface characteristics:

  • 2H – Used for roads and public roads, it prioritizes fuel economy with smooth performance.
  • 4H – Ideal for uneven roads and surfaces, including asphalt, mountains and rain. The system automatically distributes traction between the front and rear axles.
  • 4HLc - Ideal for rough terrain with low grip surfaces.
  • 4LLc - Ideal for steep climbs or descents, rocks, sand and mud.

The sixth generation of the Triton pickup truck line is expected to hit the Brazilian market in mid-January. Pre-sales of the pickup will begin in December at the brand's dealerships throughout Brazil.
