Ministry of Agriculture and Federal Revenue destroy 35 tons of pesticides in MS

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Federal Revenue Service of Ponta Porã (MS) destroyed around 35 tons of illegal pesticides that were seized in joint inspection actions. The products were destined for incineration, following the standard procedures adopted for this type of material.

According to information released by Mapa, since 2020, 215 tons of smuggled pesticides have been seized and destroyed in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, which are not registered with Mapa. Most of the seizures occurred in the operations of the Agricultural Defense Surveillance Program for International Borders (Vigifronteira), which works to combat irregular agricultural activities.

Illegal products, not registered on the Map, pose risks to agriculture, human health and the environment. These products have no proven efficacy and can cause serious damage to the environmental balance, in addition to putting the health of field workers and food consumers at risk.

The process of disabling the product is carried out by registered companies that collaborate in the collection of the seized pesticide and carry out incineration in special chambers, with temperatures above 800º C that control atmospheric emissions and avoid contamination of air, soil and water sources. In Mato Grosso do Sul, destruction is carried out in partnership with CropLife Brasil.

Mapa's general coordinator of Pesticides and Related Products, José Victor Torres, highlighted the importance of collaboration between inspection bodies and associations of representatives of the registering companies to guarantee the success and effectiveness of the actions. He stated that combating illegal pesticides is a priority in the actions developed by Mapa.
