The meeting to evaluate the results of agricultural zoning of climate risks for corn, soybean and wheat crops – 2016/17 harvest was held on Thursday (22), via videoconference, in the auditorium of the Federal Superintendency of Agriculture, Livestock and Minas Gerais Supply (Mapa/SFA-MG), in Belo Horizonte-MG.

Representatives from the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Minas Gerais (Seapa), the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company (Emater-MG), the Agricultural Research Company of Minas Gerais (Epamig) participated. , Federal Rural Learning Service (Senar), Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of Minas Gerais (Faemg), National Supply Company (Conab), Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Banco do Brasil, Caixa Econômica Federal, Banco do Nordeste and Sicoob Crediminas.

Agricultural Climate Risk Zoning is an instrument of agricultural policy and risk management in agriculture prepared by Embrapa and coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa). The study was carried out in two stages: modeling and evaluation/validation of results.

With the presence of SFA-MG superintendent Márcio Murta Kangussu, the videoconference was coordinated by researchers from Embrapa Corn and Sorghum Derli Prudente Santana, Miguel Marques Gontijo, Daniel Pereira Guimarães and Ivênio Rubens de Oliveira. The objective was to verify the adherence between the results obtained with the models and the field reality.

According to Fernando Costa, from SFA-MG, it was decided at the meeting to open a channel for representatives of the different segments of the agricultural sector. "Each participant was given a document to mark the suggestions to be forwarded, by September 30th, to the Embrapa representative. From there, the team will analyze the suggestions to be included in this 2016-2017 harvest. If this is not possible, it will be included in the following harvest", he explains.

Fernando assessed the meeting as fruitful, with the opening of these suggestions for improving agricultural zoning related to climate change. "This work will help rural producers decide when to start their production process, in order to minimize the chance that climatic adversities coincide with the most sensitive phase of crops," he said.
