Meet the winners of the 2nd Women of Agro Award

Innovative and sustainable agricultural production is recognized in an award aimed at female leadership

From São Paulo to Tocantins, the winners of the Women of Agriculture Award represent different regions of Brazil and are experts in the country's main crops. The nine winners were announced this Wednesday (9/10), during the 4th National Congress of Women of Agriculture. Agribusiness, at the Transamerica Expo Center, in São Paulo. The initiative, which values ​​innovative management practices by Brazilian farmers and ranchers, was created by Bayer in partnership with ABAG – Brazilian Agribusiness Association.

In this year's edition, the award is also sponsored by Elanco Saúde Animal and the support of the Transamérica Expo Center. The main objective is to recognize the contribution of women in agricultural activities and support them in the fight for gender equality. 

Criteria related to Innovative Management were evaluated in the small, medium and large property categories. “The winners stood out for innovative actions in relation to the sustainable use of natural resources, social development of the community and its employees, good agricultural practices, use of technologies in the field, animal welfare, among other initiatives”, said Cecília Melo, manager of Crop Protection Launches at Bayer, who took the stage to recognize the winners.

·             2nd Place: Luciane Rheinheimer – Carazinho – Rio Grande do Sul

·             3rd Place: Marinez Ana Bortolanza Croda – Matelândia – Rio Grande do Sul

Small Property

·             1st Place: Ivanda Maria Winter Heck – Missal – Paraná

·             2nd Place: Lidiane dos Santos da Silva – Viamão – Rio Grande do Sul

·             3rd Place: Gabriela Gruisen Breg – Holambra – São Paulo

“It is an honor to continue this initiative, we want more and more women to be protagonists in the agricultural sector. It is very important for Bayer to disseminate these good practices and also recognize the contribution of these women to Brazilian agribusiness”, said Gehard Bohne, CEO of Bayer's agricultural division in Brazil.

“The Women of Agro Award is a recognition of the women who make a difference in Brazilian agribusiness,” says Sheila Guebara, senior manager of Corporate Affairs at Elanco. “In recent years, the female presence on farms has grown substantially. Now is the time to recognize the achievements made by these women and encourage others to take a leading role in the sector”, she adds.

ABAG remains consistent with its mission of seeking balance and valorization of agribusiness production chains. In addition, it advances other relevant issues such as this Award for valuing women who work in agriculture. “Women have already broken several barriers and stereotypes. With this Award we will have the opportunity to recognize female leadership in agribusiness by women managers, workers, motivated and brave”, highlights Marcello Brito, president of the ABAG Board of Directors.
