Act No. 32 of the Department of Plant Health and Agricultural Inputs of the Secretariat of Agricultural Defense brought the registration of over 30 formulated products, that is, agricultural pesticides that will effectively be available for use by farmers. Of these, six are low impact, four of which are intended for use in organic agriculture.

Among biological products, the wasp stands out Diachasmimorpha longicaudata as it is the first product of this type registered in Brazil for the control of several species of fruit flies. Registration was automatically granted as a “phytosanitary product with approved use for organic agriculture” based on reference specification (ER) nº 36, prepared jointly by the competent bodies (Mapa, Anvisa and Ibama) and with the participation of researcher Beatriz Paranhos , from Embrapa Semiarid. The product can also be used in conventional fruit growing.

“In addition to being a registered product with a new active ingredient, the product stands out for being recommended for controlling star fruit flies (Bactrocera carambolae). Despite its name, this species of fruit fly attacks a very wide range of fruits and is one of the most economically important pests in Brazil. With this registration we bring the possibility of adding the first biological control technique to the official suppression subprogram aimed at eradicating Bactrocera carambolae, carried out by Mapa”, reports the head of the Formulated Products Registration Division, Tatiane Nascimento.

Regarding registered chemical products, the highlight is the registration of a new fungicide, mefentrifluconazole. This active ingredient controls a wide spectrum of pathogens in the most varied crops, in addition to having a protective and curative action, acting at different stages of fungus development. This asset is already registered in other countries such as the United States and the European Union.

During this year, 151 products have already been registered, 34 of which are classified as low impact, which highlights the growing concern with sustainable agricultural practices.

The other products use active ingredients previously registered in the country. The registration of generic pesticides is important to reduce market concentration and increase competition, which results in fairer trade and lower production costs for Brazilian agriculture.

All registered products were analyzed and approved by the bodies responsible for health, environment and agriculture, according to scientific criteria and in line with the best international practices.
