The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), within the scope of the Trilateral Cooperation Program Brazil, Germany and Ethiopia, received, on Monday (21/11), an Ethiopian delegation to deal with the technical cooperation project between the aforementioned countries with the aim of developing a pluralistic extension system for Ethiopia, aiming to increase agricultural productivity in a sustainable way. The delegation will have its agenda in the country until December 3rd.

The project encompasses three phases: diagnosis; mission of Ethiopian experts to Brazil and studies and implementation of Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (Ater) pilots in four regions of Ethiopia.

The first phase, carried out in July 2022, sought a better understanding of the Ethiopian reality in the area of rural extension. Now, Mapa, with the support of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) and the German International Technical Cooperation Office (GIZ), organized a mission to Brazil, to receive Ethiopian technicians who are experts in the thematic areas defined in the diagnosis phase.

The mission consists of confirming the availability of technical support from Brazil to the government of Ethiopia, complementing and analyzing the needs already identified, as well as identifying possible themes for the establishment of pilots. The idea is that Ethiopian experts can learn about Ater practices that can be replicated in their country.

This trilateral cooperation will benefit family farmers in Ethiopia by providing better Ater service to increase productivity and income. The initiative also places emphasis on women farmers, offering special training and workshops based on a multi-stakeholder approach.
