Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) published this Friday, May 29, in the Official Gazette of the Union the ordinances numbers 145 to 160 which establish the Agricultural Climate Risk Zoning (Zarc) for soybean cultivation. The objective is to reduce risks related to climate problems and also the phytosanitary risk caused by Asian soybean rust. Zarc takes into account recommendations from research institutions and state agencies on management measures that include the fallow period and the planting calendar to reduce risks related to phytosanitary aspects.

The main novelty in the soybean ordinances are the new cultivars indicated by maturation group and Federation Unit (UF). For the 2020/2021 harvest, in total, 9.356 indications were made, considering that the same cultivar can be indicated for different UFs, a number 15% higher than the previous harvest, of this amount of indications, 64% refer to cultivars from Group 1, indicating that the development of early cultivars has been gaining prominence among breeders.

Last Friday, May 22, 2020, Zarc's ordinances were also published numbers 125 to 144, from the sunflower crop, which presents characteristics of good tolerance to water stress, therefore, it fits into production systems that carry out two harvests.

With the publication of the sunflower and soybean Zarc, Mapa finalizes the schedule for publishing ordinances for the month of May 2020, fulfilling the objective of publishing at least 90 days in advance of planting. This way, rural producers and financial agents have better security when closing insurance and rural credit contracts for the 2020/2021 harvest.

Even with the Covid-19 pandemic, the services, which range from establishing the methodology and applying modeling to receiving cultivar information and publication in the Official Gazette of the Union, were carried out remotely through information systems, which allowed, this year, the publication of the Ordinances of Zarc to be brought forward for the subsequent summer harvest.
