A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply begins today (05/05) a mission to Jordan, Egypt and Morocco. Led by minister Marcos Montes, the group will meet with representatives of private companies and governments from these three countries to discuss the supply of fertilizers and the expansion of investments in Brazil. The meetings will also serve to reaffirm the destination markets for Brazilian products.

In Jordan, the main topic will be the supply of potash fertilizers. In Egypt, the focus will be on nitrogen and in Morocco, on phosphates. The return to Brazil is scheduled for May 14th.

“We are also going to take advantage of the trip to consolidate our agricultural products in these three countries, so I believe that the trip will be successful and we will return, God willing, with good results”, said the minister, upon boarding.

Events

The minister's agenda in Jordan, which begins on May 7, includes meetings with directors of important potash producing companies, such as the Arab Potash Company (APC), which produces more than 2,4 million tons per year, and the Jordan Phosphate Mining Company (JPMC), with a production capacity of over 7 million tons per year. Meetings are also planned between Minister Marcos Montes and the Minister of Agriculture of Jordan, Khaled Musa Henefat, and the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supply, Youssef Al-Shamal.

On May 9, the Mapa delegation arrives in Cairo, where minister Marcos Montes is expected to meet with the deputy minister of Agriculture, Moustafa El Sayeed, and the minister of Supply, Aly Al Moselhy. The Mapa delegation participates in the Brazil – Egypt Forum: Opportunities in bilateral trade, promoted by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce. Meetings are also planned with representatives from the fertilizer and animal protein sector.

The delegation arrives in Morocco on May 12th. A meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, Mohammed Sadiki, is planned, as well as a visit to the Jorf Lasfar plant of the Company Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP). The state-owned company is currently the largest supplier of phosphorus to Brazil.

Morocco is the world's second largest producer of phosphate fertilizers, responsible for around 17% of global production. In 2021, Brazil imported more than US$1,6 billion in fertilizers from Morocco.
