Mapa evaluates agricultural insurance for vegetable crops

Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) will hold on November 20th, at 15 pm, a videoconference of the Rural Insurance Monitor project, dedicated to agricultural insurance for vegetable crops in tomatoes, onions, garlic, potatoes, peppers and cassava. The objective is to evaluate the products and services offered by insurance companies and propose improvements in agricultural insurance for these activities. The work is coordinated by Mapa's Risk Management Department and will have the participation of producers with the support of entities representing the sector, cooperatives, associations, input resellers, insurance companies, reinsurance companies, brokers, experts and financial institutions.  

Agricultural insurance for vegetable crops is offered by 10 insurance companies qualified in the Rural Insurance Premium Subsidy Program (PSR) in practically all producing regions, with the offering insurance companies varying depending on the region. 

Six states stand out in contracting vegetable insurance: São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Mato Grosso do Sul and Rio Grande do Sul. The state of São Paulo leads contracts in 2020 so far with 38% of the total area insured vegetable sector, which reached 51 thousand hectares in the country, an increase of 89,6% in relation to the insured area in 2019. 

In 2020, 3.738 vegetable insurance policies were already contracted, with tomatoes and onions totaling more than 3 thousand policies. The insured value calculated until the beginning of November was R$704 million.
