Mapa carries out operation to inspect fertilizers and correctives in Mato Grosso and Pará

Federal agricultural tax auditors from the Agricultural Defense Secretariat of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) traveled 4.400 km in an unprecedented operation to inspect fertilizers and correctives in the states of Mato Grosso and Pará. In the action, 37 product samples were collected for analysis of compliance at the Federal Agricultural Defense Laboratories (LFDA).

During 14 days of operation, the team inspected 18 establishments in the region of Santarém, Itaituba, Rurópolis, Belterra and Fordlândia in Pará and 22 establishments in the North of Mato Grosso, municipalities of Guarantã do Norte, Sinop, Sorriso, Nova Mutum, Lucas do Rio Verde and Cuiabá.

“This route represents an important productive route for Brazilian agribusiness. A particularity that caught the attention of the auditors was the routine transport of corrective agents and fertilizers, in barges carrying 4.000 tons of cargo, along the Tapajós River in the northern region”, reported the federal agricultural tax auditor, Leonardo Gianasi.

11 companies were precautionarily embargoed, with four establishments operating without proper registration on Mapa. Other cases require adjustments to the facilities or proof of compliance with quality control procedures for raw materials and finished products. In total, 27 infraction notices and seven subpoenas were issued.

“Products with irregular identification, with the potential to mislead the consumer, and products without mandatory identification were seized to adapt them to current regulations”, highlighted Gianasi.

10 federal agricultural tax auditors from different states participated in the action. The task force was organized by the Department of Plant Health and Agricultural Inputs and had logistical support from the Federal Superintendencies of Agriculture in the states of Pará and Mato Grosso.
