Tocantins has advanced in the actions of the Low Carbon Emission Agriculture Plan (ABC Plan), positioning the State as a reference in execution. The results achieved and the prospects for the ABC + 2020 – 2030 plan were topics this morning on the first day of programming at the Tocantins Agrotechnology Fair - Agrotins 2021 100% Digital. The event runs until Friday, 18th, on the platform www.agrotins.to.gov.br.
Focusing on conservation and productivity, the presentations were made by the Secretary of Agricultural Policy of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), César Halum; by the executive secretary of the State Secretariat for Agriculture, Livestock and Aquaculture (Seagro), Adenieux Santana; by the president of the Tocantins Rural Development Institute (Ruraltins), Fabiano Miranda; and the executive director of Innovation and Technology at Embrapa, Adriana Regina Martin.
In the presentation, Secretary César Halum highlighted the importance of strengthening technical assistance and rural extension in the application and access of small, medium and large producers to sustainable technologies in production systems.
Among the opportunities that Tocantins can implement, the secretary emphasized land regularization to increase and diversify productive activities; and the promotion, adoption and maintenance of a sustainable production system with incentives for the environmental regularization of rural properties. “We are interested in, in addition to improving the property internally, promoting food security, and the ABC plan allows this, creating more credibility in the market and attracting more investments. Investors want to invest resources where all projects under development are linked to sustainability”, highlighted César Halum.
Continuing the presentation of institutional actions within the ABC + Plan, Embrapa's executive director, Adriana Regina Martin, explained the company's contributions to the execution of the Plan, highlighting the review and strategic and conceptual elaboration of ABC + and its manual of operation; the coordination and execution of monitoring activities through the ABC platform. The director also highlighted the projects being developed aimed at product certification, such as the carbon neutral meat seal, and soon, low carbon coffee, soy and milk.
Among the commitments made, stimulating technologies in an area of 35,5 million hectares, contributing to the mitigation of 133 million tons of carbon dioxide, and the results were much greater. “We reached 170 million tons of carbon, so we reached 115% of our goals. This was through the adoption of measures such as recovery of degraded pastures, crop-livestock-forest integration system, direct planting system and actions supported by Embrapa”, explained Adriana Regina Martin.
“Tocantins is a reference in the implementation and execution of the ABC Plan. Producing more and in less space is possible. Let's show the world that Tocantins products are competitive and deserve an environmental and sustainability certification seal”, concluded Seagro's executive secretary, Adenieux Santana.
Regarding the results achieved by rural extension, the president of Ruraltins also presented the body's work to promote socioeconomic sustainability with a focus on the Plan's guidelines. “Tocantins has made great progress in the Plan’s actions, and the URTs [Technological Reference Units] implemented by Ruraltins technicians in the replication of technologies have contributed to this. Today, there are 60 technicians continuously trained and working in 31 URTs implemented by the State. In addition to training, Field Days were also held at URTs, which, after prior planning work for the harvest and successful implementation of the same, obtained satisfactory productivity results due to the change in data management and implementation of sustainable techniques”, emphasized Fabiano Miranda.
Also according to the president, the prospects for the ABC Plan in Ruraltins are to increase the network of trained technicians, from 60 to 100, and thus enable more producers to increase their productivity, reaching the target of 60 URTs implemented by the state of Tocantins.
The ABC Plan is a public policy, made up of a set of actions that aim to promote the expansion of the adoption of some sustainable agricultural technologies.
