Paraná hosts the first edition of the Regional Agricultural Innovation Forum
Event promoted by Mapa presented new technologies and discussed innovation opportunities for the field
Participants in Cotton Day 2019 will have the opportunity on June 14th to stay up to date with the most important news in the scientific field focused on the quality and productivity of cotton. The circuit made up of four thematic stations will feature researcher and agricultural consultant Wanderley Oishi, who will talk about the performance results of different cotton varieties, with data on productivity, fiber quality and disease resistance. “It is complete data that we have computed and analyzed since the last harvest, a work of direct interest to the producer”, he explains.
The new feature brings greater knowledge of the varieties. “Last year, we had an idea of how each material behaved. This year, the data is more refined about the quantitative and qualitative potential of each variety,” he says. Oishi clarifies that results of two to three years are necessary to fully understand the behavior of a variety, which responds differently depending on the climatic and environmental variations that may occur. “That’s why we need to analyze it for more than a year, to find out how a plant behaves in different situations”, he highlights.
Still according to Oishi, more knowledge means less risk for the producer and obtaining the greatest potential of each cultivar, using the stand and appropriate management in addition to phytosanitary and size. “These varieties have very high productivity potential, but they are very sensitive to adverse weather conditions and poorly managed management”, he ponders.
The producer must be aware that he must be much more detailed in cotton management. “Each variety requires specific management, which varies from field to field, from farm to farm. Based on the results we will present, the producer will be better able to manage his crops to obtain better performance”, he highlights.
Cotton Day is the biggest event in the cotton sector in Goiás. In addition to the lectures, the program includes sustainability actions, a technology fair and lots of interaction between producers, technicians and researchers.
Cotton Day 2019 will also feature the Monitoring and Management of Large Areas in Nematodes stations; Soil Health and Agricultural Sustainability; and Cotton Management for high Productivity and Fiber Quality. Cotton Day will take place at the headquarters of the Instituto Goiano de Agricultura (IGA), in Montividiu-GO. Registration can be done on site.
